Vertical Storage Tank Design (300 KL–500 KL) & Distribution Network – Liquor Manufacturing Plant

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A leading liquor manufacturing plant required eight vertical above-ground storage tanks ranging from 300 KL to 500 KL, designed as per API 650 standards for safe storage of alcohol and process liquids.
The scope also included designing a complete transfer and distribution pipeline network, pump sizing, and a multi-point loading/unloading system to ensure efficient material movement across production, storage, and dispatch areas.

Adhyntra Pvt Ltd provided end-to-end engineering, covering tank design, foundation details, MOC selection, piping network, pump calculations, safety accessories, and operational integration.

PROJECT PROCESS / APPROACH

1️⃣ Requirement Study & Process Analysis

  • Assessed storage capacity requirements for different products
  • Reviewed alcohol storage norms, venting, fire safety, and ATEX/flammable zone considerations
  • Understood loading/unloading sequence and transfer frequency
  • Identified operational interlocks & safety devices

2️⃣ API 650 Tank Design – Engineering

Prepared complete design & engineering for 8 vertical storage tanks:

  • Capacity: 300 KL to 500 KL
  • Above-ground vertical cylindrical tanks
  • MOC: MS/SS as per alcohol compatibility
  • Roof design: cone/flat roof depending on tank
  • Foundation design (RCC ring wall)
  • Nozzle orientation & manhole design
  • Vent, flame arrestor, level gauge, sampling, drain
  • Wind and seismic load calculations
  • Shell plate thickness calculation as per API 650

3️⃣ Distribution & Transfer Network Design

Designed the complete transfer pipeline network, including:

  • Material selection according to alcohol compatibility

🔹 Branch lines to filling, processing & unloading areas

  • Multi-directional routing
  • Optimized for minimum pressure drop

🔹 Pump selection & capacity design

  • Flow rate calculation for loading/unloading
  • TDH calculation considering elevation, friction, and distance
  • Recommended pump types (monoblock, centrifugal, AODD if needed)
  • Standby pump arrangement
